Sabrina Mahfouz – Poet
In 2010, Sabrina was awarded a Westminster Prize for my first short play, That Boy, which was performed at Soho Theatre. That Boy was also included in the critically acclaimed show End of the Line (winner of the IdeasTap Group Award) which she produced and directed with her writing collective, Knocked For Six, who formed following the Royal Court’s Young Writer’s ‘Unheard Voices’ Programme.
The hard-hitting play Crystal Kisses, concerning Child Sexual Exploitation and co-written with Avaes Mohammad premiered at Contact Theatre, Manchester in October to rave reviews. Earlier in the year, she dived into REMIX, (winner of IdeasTap Innovator Award) showcased at BAC in which one of her poems was turned into a play, a dance, a fashion story and a photography collection.
She’s read her poetry on BBC Radio 1; BBC1xtra; at Glastonbury and Latitude; on stages all over the country and many places which smell of wee.
She has had my poems published in a number of magazines and anthologies and been chosen to represent UK poetry in Morocco (with Dean Atta, Deanna Rodger, Chimene Suleyman and Bridget Minamore) as part of UKYA,‘showcasing exceptional UK young artists’, with the poetry collective Point Blank Poets (winners of UKYA Derby).
